Whanganui Resource Recovery Centre – 2019 Art Project

Do you have surplus plastic bottle and pail lids?

Sustainable Whanganui’s ReUse Academy is collecting these to support the creation of artworks for a sculpture garden at the Whanganui Resource Recovery Centre.

Castlecliff’s Esther Topfer has agreed to be the lead artist for the project which will be held during the first week of the July school holidays. Intermediate and high school students will work with Esther, WRRC environmental educators, Sarjeant Gallery staff and SW volunteers in the Centre’s Harakeke room to create the artworks from recycled materials. Some preliminary ideas include plastic flower curtains, chandeliers, triffids and whirlygigs though participants will be encouraged to let their own creative juices flow.

Creations made as part of the art project will then form the basis of a new Sculpture Garden on a grassed area inside the WRRC.

Please drop off your clean lids to Sustainable Whanganui’s duty WhEBster (volunteer), between 10am and 4pm weekdays.
