Biochar

October 20, 2019 @ 9:30 am - 1:00 pm

Biochar workshop Sun 20th October – for gardeners and growers

Biochar is amazingly porous and the charged compost allows for superb retention of minerals, microbes and water. It is especially great for sandy or clay soils. It lasts indefinitely in the soil so is also one of the few carbon negative things you can do.

If you want to learn how to make excellent charcoal for biochar using only waste wood, a shovel and a hole in the ground, come to a workshop on Sunday the 20th from 9.30am to about 1pm. As well as the charcoal-making process end-to-end, we’ll talk about crushing it and activating or charging it as biochar compost.

Come to the food forest at the Quaker Settlement, through the gate opposite the dog park / Otamatea Reserve and also opposite number 73 Virginia Road. Bring something to eat or drink if you wish. Fire-safe children are welcome. This is offered as a gift with a koha jar available.

Heavy rain will postpone it so ring me if doubtful on the day.
