Whanganui – Strike 4 Climate NZ
September 27, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
National and local governments aren’t doing enough to combat the climate crisis that we are currently experiencing.
We are encouraging students and adults to leave their schools and workplaces to join us in standing up for climate justice. Our beautiful town is in need of protection, especially the awa that is the very soul of us. The more we do to protect our awa and the wide expanse of ocean that the Whanganui River runs into, the better for us and our ecosystem.
We can’t keep leaving this for later, we want to declare a climate emergency NOW!
Join us, along with every other town participating in the Nationwide strike on FRIDAY THE 27TH OF SEPTEMBER at 10am at Majestic Square. We will be presenting speeches and learning chants. There will be an open mic! Books/boxes will be out for the public to put down ideas for the council to adapt to climate change. We will then march down Maria Place to the district council to present these ideas.
Please feel free to make speeches! Bring signs and banners, as many as you can! Bring your family and friends – everyone! You don’t need to know much about the climate crisis we face, but the more people we have the more of an impact we will make.
After the speeches and march, we will be doing a community rubbish clean up near the river as a way of us giving to our environment. 💚
If anyone has any spare sacks that we can re-use for the rubbish clean-up, please bring them in!
